Paul van Dyk has given his fans not one, but two reasons for celebration this past week. The highly regarded superstar DJ and producer just announced that he would headline the first-ever Dreamstate tour this spring, and now he’s delivered a new single titled “Touched By Heaven.”
Trance diehards likely won’t be disappointed by what van Dyk has offered up for this release. A fast-paced tech trance buildup gives way to a breakdown with a tasteful amount of melodic tension before the rolling bass kicks and frenetic smattering of synths find their way back into the arrangement.
Paul van Dyk is among the most respected artists in trance, having played a seminal role in the formulation of the genre as it emerged from melodic synth techno in the early ’90s. Even as some of the world’s biggest trance icons adopted more mainstream sounds around the EDM explosion of 2010, he continued to put out music that appealed to more discerning enthusiasts.
Paul van Dyk will kick off the Dreamstate tour with a performance at House of Blues in Boston on April 27th. Vini Vici and Simon Patterson are among the supporting acts playing some of the 12 dates of the tour.
