The New York City club kids have found their way into more headlines in a matter of weeks than they have over the past two years. George Lopez A.K.A. Keoki was found in possession of mass amounts of illicit substances when police arrived at former NBC producer Thomas Felty‘s apartment last month, and now Michael Alig himself has been arrested for a similar charge.
Alig’s offense was significantly smaller in scope than that of Lopez, to be sure. Police said that Alig had been found in Joyce Kilmer Park after park curfew, and when police spotted a pipe in his pocket he admitted to using it to smoke crystal methamphetamine.
Both Alig and Lopez’ most recent claim to fame was their depictions by Macaulay Culkin and Wilder Valderrama, respectively, in the 2003 film Party Monster. The movie depicted Alig’s rise and fall as a club kid icon – in addition to the 1996 murder of Andre “Angel” Melendez for which he just got out on parole in 2014. Incidentally, if he had been arrested before his parole ended on November 30th, he could have gone back to prison for the offense.
Michael Alig has not been released as of this writing.
